SEO is NOT an Internet Marketing Strategy!
Eye-tracking studies reveal that web users will scan the results of the SERPS (search engine results pages) from top to bottom and left to right, looking for the site they deem most relevant. When people search for information on the internet, the top 3-5 search results are, more than likely, be the only pages visited. Part of the reason these sites are ranking highly in the search engines is due to the search keywords you used and their use in those sites. It goes to say that placement at or near the top of the rankings will increase the number of visitors to your website. This is only one of the “4 Ps of Marketing” - Positioning. More search engine traffic does not necessarily mean an increase in sales. SEO is NOT an Internet Marketing Strategy.
Internet Marketing Strategy VS. Tactics
Search engine optimization may very well generate a return on investment. However, your internet marketing strategy needs to take into account the product you sell, it’s competitive pricing as well as the messaging that positions your product in the mind of your buyer.
While EsotericLabs.com consults clients as to their pricing and messaging strategy to increase conversions, how to best position companies on the web to maximize these strategies defines what we call the SEO 2.0 process. The problem is, organic search results are not part of an advertising campaign that can be controlled, paid or easily manipulated on a consistent basis. Search engines are not paid for organic search results, their ranking algorithms change, and there is not an assurance of a continued stream of buyers. Due to this uncertainty, a company doing business on the web should not rely on organic SEO alone. That’s where Search Engine Optimization 2.0 comes in.
What is Search Engine Optimization 2.0?
SEO 2.0 takes into account every aspect of positioning available on the internet as a whole. So what does this process of SEO entail? Both “OnPage SEO Factors” and “OffPage SEO Factors” that include:
- Search Keyword Position: where the keywords or keyword phrases appear on your website
- Search Keyword Frequency: how many times the keywords or search phrases appear throughout a given web page
- Site Relevancy: how contextually relevant a site is given the topic/category your search keywords live
- Search Keyword Link Relevance: the search keywords being used to link to your site from other websites
- Site Variety of Inbound Links: the ratio of different types sites that are linking to you (social bookmarking sites, authority sites, industry sites, blogs, news, .edu, .org, etc…)
- The Popularity/Authority of Sites that are Linking to Yours: some links don’t really count so know where your efforts need to be focused
Internet Marketing Matrix: As the SERPS keep getting more and more competitive, it is a holistic approach to online business development that will prevail - and nothing less. More and more, “SEARCH” will refer to being found, online; wherever and however a business is found. A good SEO 2.0 strategy means higher rankings, broad visibility in new media, better traffic and better chances of getting clients. If you can’t be found easily, you can’t do business online.
