7 Quick Tips To Increasing Site Traffic

People are finding their fortune on the Internet (or at least are trying) by creating their own websites. You may even be one of them. But it takes more than a website to make money on the Internet; you have to have people visit your website, and I mean A LOT of people.

And just how do you increase site traffic from nil to vibrancy? Let us count the ways:

1.SEO

By far, this is the most effective way to get your target audience to visit your site. And it can be the cheapest too. If you know how to do it, then you can do it yourself. But if not, then leave it to the experts. SEO works by optimizing your website so that you get to the top of search engines when someone types in a keyword you are targeting. Say, for example, you have a website selling coffee beans from Colombia, then you should target keywords like “coffee,” “best coffee beans,” “Colombia coffee.” So when someone types in those exact keywords in Google, Yahoo! or MSN, you get to the top of results. SEO is not rocket science but it takes time before you increase site traffic.

2. Forums

Forums are only effective in increasing site traffic if: (a) you are allowed to attach your signature (picture, URL, etc.) whenever your post, and (b) if you are allowed to post website links on a post. Some forums, especially resource forums, are doggedly determined about keeping themselves free from any endorsements or promotions; you may get banned if you are as bull headed about promotion to increase your site traffic. So, tread carefully.

3. Google Adwords campaign

Google Adwords is basically targeted advertising, i.e., your advertisement only appears in search results for your targeted keywords, or in websites that target the same keywords that you do.

4. Press releases/PR articles

Press releases are short news articles that tell the latest about your company while PR articles are information articles that allow you to post your byline and the link to your website.

You may send your press releases to free PR channels (just look them up in Google) and expect them to be picked up by related blogs or be crawled by Google news. The same goes for PR articles (just submit them to PR article channels).

5. Link Exchange/banner exchange

Link exchange and banner exchange work the same way: you exchange links with other websites. With banner exchange, however, you get to put conspicuous graphics on the other website for visitors to see (and, hopefully, click on).

6. Friends Network Sites

Independent filmmakers in the United States are making great use of friends’ networks like MySpace to promote their films. You too can do the same to increase site traffic to your website. Of course, it helps if you have a lot of friends on your network.

7. Offline Efforts

Yes, it won’t hurt if you tell people about your website when you are not online. Meet with friends and acquaintances, and if you don’t have any, make some. Your socialization efforts will pay off.
