Search Engine Optimization - Profit thru Cloaking?

Cloaking, Spoofing… what ever you want to call it; to SEO professionals, it means the same thing. Cloaking is the practice of showing different content to search engines than what you show to your users. When a regular user click into your site, the site’s normal page is shown. However, when a search engine spider makes the same page request, a special page that has been created for the engine is returned. The normal page is hidden from the search engine. This is cloaking. Google amends Webmaster Guidelines: “Excessive” added to SEO linking guidelines

As you probably have read in “Google to Webmasters: Reciprocal Linking will get you BANNED!” there has been quite a reaction to Google’s Webmaster Guidelines’ update regarding reciprocal linking for SEO as opposed to reciprocal linking for. The original guideline stated:

Examples of link schemes can include:
Link exchange and reciprocal links schemes (”Link to me and I’ll link to you.”)

Google to Webmasters: Reciprocal Linking will get you BANNED!

Amazing! You’re gonna want to bookmark this one. According to the new Google Webmaster Guidelines regarding Search Engine Optimization, “Web sites are no longer permitted to exchange links” which is one of the fundamental practices on the internet (which predates Google BTW). Do notice it explicitly states “Link to me and I’ll link to you” is Reciprocal Linking an activity that Google considers a “Link Scheme” that has a likelihood of getting you BANNED! SEO is NOT an Internet Marketing Strategy!

Eye-tracking studies reveal that web users will scan the results of the SERPS (search engine results pages) from top to bottom and left to right, looking for the site they deem most relevant. When people search for information on the internet, the top 3-5 search results are, more than likely, be the only pages visited. Part of the reason these sites are ranking highly in the search engines is due to the search keywords you used and their use in those sites. It goes to say that placement at or near the top of the rankings will increase the number of visitors to your website. This is only one of the “4 Ps of Marketing” - Positioning.
